Well, there weren't just dead bees...there were live bees...thousands of them. In our roof and wall over in the side yard.
Since discovering their location about a week ago (Jason got the tip off when there was a HUGE swarm outside out window), we've had numerous companies out to give us estimates on the cost for removal, cleaning, sealing, and all of the other fun things that go along with bees. It's been quite an interesting few days, and we've learned a lot--did you know that after 6 months or so the hive would die off and another round of bees would come start their honey-making?
Well, today was dooms-day for our hive. Troy from Pro Pacific Bee Removal came this morning, threw on his bee gear, and began extermination. Pro Pacific will be back out on Saturday to do the removal and cleaning; we're pretty excited to see the 100 pounds of honey that our 8,000* bees have been making!
*Note: Jason corrected me...it's 8,000 bees--not 80,000.

Do you get to eat the honey? How did he clean it out? Did he take 80,000 bees with him to save them? did he just free them? kill them? how does this work?
ReplyDeleteI think it was only 8,000 bees. There are different ways to do it, but we went with the killing route. Was going to go with a company that did live removal (they literally use a vacuum and suck them out) but the company got horrible yelp reviews. So they are geting killed today. Saturday they come back and open up the siding and remove the honey. not sure if we get to keep any or how that works. But no more bees which is good.
